Frequently asked questions

What is EMI and how is it calculated?
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed monthly payment you make to repay a loan. It's calculated from the loan amount, annual interest rate, and tenure using the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ / ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly installments.
Does this use flat or reducing-balance interest?
Reducing balance — the standard method for most home, car, personal, and education loans. Interest each month is calculated only on the remaining principal, not the original loan amount, so the interest portion of your EMI shrinks over time while the principal portion grows.
What is an amortization schedule?
A month-by-month (or year-by-year) breakdown of each payment showing how much goes toward interest versus principal, and your remaining balance after each installment.
Does this work for a 0% interest loan?
Yes. With a 0% rate, your EMI is simply the loan amount divided evenly across the tenure, with no interest component.
Is my loan information stored or uploaded anywhere?
No. All calculation happens locally in your browser, and your inputs are autosaved only to this browser's local storage for convenience — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Can I export the full payment schedule?
Yes. Click "CSV" in the amortization schedule to download the complete month-by-month breakdown.
Is the EMI calculator really free?
Yes — free in the plain sense: nothing to pay, nothing to register for, nothing that lapses after a week. The full amortization schedule is included, not gated behind a paid report or an email capture. The only revenue here is one modest ad slot on the page.
Do I have to create an account first?
No. There's no account system at all, so there's nothing to sign up for and nothing to install. Enter your amount, rate and tenure, and the EMI updates instantly.
