Which hash algorithms are supported?

Is my text or file uploaded to a server?
No. Text hashing uses the browser's built-in Web Crypto API, and MD5 (which browsers don't provide natively) runs from a small local implementation. Files are read and hashed directly in memory — nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere.
How do I verify a file I downloaded matches the original?
Upload the file, then paste the hash published by the source into the "Compare with a hash" field. It's checked automatically against whichever algorithm matches its length, and you'll see a clear match or mismatch.
Is MD5 or SHA-1 safe to use?
Not for security purposes — both are broken for things like password storage or digital signatures. They're included here because they're still widely used for legacy checksums and file-integrity checks, where collision resistance isn't the concern.
How large a file can I hash?
Up to 250MB. Hashing happens entirely in your browser's memory, so very large files can be slow or use a lot of memory depending on your device.
